New to Chill, April 28 2018

We have some very special new tunes to play you from this weekend. If you would like to suggest anything we should be playing, you can email music@helpmechill.com

Newark Mind – Let Summer Come

We’ll be featuring some tracks from a project put together by the MIND mental health charity in Newark. They involved professional musicians and songwriters, as well as service users, to build some tunes to share their experiences and encouragements to help people chill. Their CEO Shirley Novak explains more in the video below, and you can follow updates on the album’s launch here.

Tea – Grand Cru

“The godfather of acid jazz,” legendary keyboardist Brian Auger, joins Tea to make a special, uplifting album. We’ll be featuring “Trapeze” and “Cargo” across the day on Chill.

Distant.lo – In Your Heart

Warm piano vibes from the Chillhop label, this will make you feel nice and comfy whatever the weather is doing this weekend.

Novo Amor – State Lines

Latest creation from the super-talented Welsh producer / singer / songwriter, we think this is best summed up by the top YouTube commenter, Mistify: “I literally made a cup of tea before I listened to this so I could enjoy it in peace. So worth it. <3”

And more…

…including NDE, Wilhaeven and Sad Radio On Cassini.

New to Chill, April 21 2018

So it’s summer now, yes? We’ve got some fresh sunshine tunes to help you chill, whatever happens. If you would like to suggest anything we should be playing, you can email music@helpmechill.com

Thievery Corporation – Treasures From The Temple

A companion to last year’s “The Temple of I & I”, this album from one of our favourite acts is packed with sun-fuelled tunes and remixes. We’ll be playing San San Rock, Music To Make You Stagger, Guidance and La Force de Melodie across the day.

Orcastratum feat. Eric Bibb & Shaneeka Simon – No Need

This supergroup of chilled headliners and top class backing musicians has made an album described as “heartfelt, cinematic oeuvre swayed by jazz, blues, classical, soul, african, UK left field musical traditions.”

Silverman – Cos You’re Beautiful

We recently discovered this chilled tune from 2010 about a “magical, mystical night”.

David Baron – Under Rain (alternate version)

No summer (or at least warm spring) inspired collection could be complete without a nod to the inevitable rain.

Frazer Campbell – Final Good Bye

.elliott.project. & OPEN label boss Frazer Campbell marks his 40th birthday with a special double-vinyl release, climaxing with this track.

We dedicate this track to Richard Newby, aka Nobby, a young producer of sounds you will have heard many times on Chill over the last few years. He died this week. He was a super fan of the station, just like you probably are as you’ve read this far, and we would love you to think fondly of him too.

In addition, we’re adding tracks by ADSR, Echo Shore and NDE which aren’t currently available to preview online.

Ólafur Arnalds – re:member

The Icelandic genius has literally re-invented the piano to produce this piece. See his unique invention here…

and the track we’re playing on Chill across the day is here:

Supertask – Divide

Oregon-based producer Supertask has created a sound his record label describe as “intentionally deeper and wavier than what we are used to”, and it feels fresh for us too. See if it helps you chill.

Lowes – Here We Are

This Lancaster trio have been compared with London Grammar, with atmospheric strings and the powerful vocals of Evie Plumb.

xxweesh – Ocean

Can John F. Kennedy help you chill? Turns out yes, if you let him remind you of where we all came from.

Tom Misch – Lost In Paris

This 22 year-old Londoner has made one of the most fun, creative and soulful albums of the year so far.

Gonza – Relax Your Mind

Honeyfeet – Hunt And Gather

Honeyfeet are a refreshingly diverse live act, powered by vocalist Rioghnach Connolly (The Breath / Afro-Celt Soundsystem). Their new album Orange Whip ranges from chilled to exciting via some hilarious highlights (“Quickball” should make you smile if you aren’t completely horrified), and we’re going to play this track across the day on Chill.

Paul Blackford – Super Frühstück

Electro / hip hop producer Paul Blackford has made this lush tune which wouldn’t sound out of place in a blissed out retro video game, and definitely helped us chill.

Cooper Sams – Adrift

Composer Cooper Sams from Boston is sometimes described as a “one-man orchestra”, but this tune grabbed our attention with its simplicity and soundtrack-type epic feel.

The Flashbulb – Undiscovered Colors

A chilled classic (released in 2010) that we only just caught up with. There must be more chilled tunes you know that we’ve overlooked – get in touch with your favourites!
