Despite the seasonal time of year they performed many songs which looked more generally at wintertime themes. Here are the non-Christmas highlights from that concert featuring some of Arctic Circle’s favourite artists – Gill Sandell, Ted Barnes, Piney Gir, Enderby’s Room and The Real Tuesday Weld.

How good are we at spotting the things which make us feel rubbish, or stressed, or excited and happy? Significant "kairos" moments make us who we are, but we might not notice them at the time.
Getting used to spotting the signs of stress helps us get closer to finding its source in us. Then we can deal with it, rather than ignoring it or hoping it will go away.
This podcast, first broadcast on Chill in 2008, can help you identify some of your own kairos moments. You can read about some of mine elsewhere on this blog. By the way, we had our latest audience figures the other day and, this time, they were really good. Thanks for listening!

One of our Chill team recently asked an open question - are our experiences in life a reflection of our beliefs?
I feel that's true to some extent, at least that we're most likely to process our experiences through the framework of our beliefs, and that our brains actually work much harder than we realise to make everything fit together. "The Political Brain" by Drew Westen explores the latest research behind this.
But there is plenty going on which we can't control or even make sense of. A friend fell off his bike a couple of weeks ago and is currently in hospital with brain injury. That's a big shock for him and everyone who knows him. It's a life-defining "kairos" experience because it doesn't reflect but challenges so many basic beliefs like:
- bikes which appear to be in good repair should not suddenly fall apart (without that belief, would you ever get on one?)
- riding home from work should be straightforward if you know what you are doing (and this person is an expert cyclist)
- life should let us take control of our circumstances ("self help" presumes on our power to do this, but connection with reality can be a very difficult shock out of this)
Thank God, he is recovering. It's been a kairos for him, his family, friends, colleagues, everyone who knows him or saw what happened. I'm sure our beliefs will shape how we look back on the event and help with his rehab. But everyone who engages with the experience and learns from this kairos will be changed by it. I'm sure the learning which results will be good, despite the pain we would rather have avoided.
So while we could try and avoid the shocks and choose define life purely by our beliefs - a logical extension of this is "cosmic ordering" where we expect our needs to be met according to our demands - real life, I think, is not so straightforward, and not always how we would want. But we need to engage with kairos moments if we're going to live a full life, and to live a chilled life we need to learn and grow from them.
What happens when life delivers a shock? Do we have to insulate ourselves, and get a bit more cynical about the world? If not, what would be the best ways to spot and deal with stress-inducing times when they come along? This podcast is about significant "kairos" moments in life - occurrences which occupy our heads and end up defining who we are.
This series of ten podcasts (originally broadcast on Chill in 2008) is about making that choice to learn from life. It's based on "The Circle" in Mike Breen's LifeShapes, a model for learning through experience while connecting with other people, and it's something I live every day with the people around me.
I'll be re-posting all ten podcasts from this series, plus new ones to follow, at http://chilledlife.posterous.com
Is chilling out something we have to wait for - a quiet time, a holiday, or just when things are settled down - or can we do it now? What does it mean to be chilled in the middle of stress? Do we have to insulate ourselves from shock, or can we choose to learn from the stresses of life?

As noticed by lots of our Facebook friends, Chill's Windows Media stream failed at the weekend leaving lots of people un-chilled. I'm sorry about this.
It's now back and, just so you know, there are other ways you can listen to us online should this happen again. This MP3 stream, currently labelled "phones and tablets" or "iPhone/other" on our web pages, should actually work on ANY internet device, including a Windows PC. We'll change the labels to make this clearer. We don't make it our primary link for a number of reasons (we can offer more info and get some sponsor credits, etc, on the mini-site which goes with the Windows Media stream) but the MP3 stream is a great way to listen on the move as well as a good backup when something goes wrong.
Thanks for bearing with us and I hope we can help you chill this week!
Bern
If you're reading this, we're guessing you enjoy chilling with us, and we want to say THANK YOU!
Do you like chillout music? Would you like some classics put together into a beautiful triple CD set? Then we have just the thing to help you chill - Pacha Ibiza Chillout Classics featuring 50 all time favourites from the likes of William Orbit, Sebastien Tellier, Zero 7, Groove Armada, Lamb, Mylo and tons more.
All you have to do to get in to win is share some of the music which helps you chill. There are three ways you can do this...
The easiest way - just add a comment on our blog or Facebook page with some track ideas.
The most helpful way - make a free, legal compilation of tunes you can share online and put the link on our blog or Facebook page. We recommend www.8tracks.com for legally uploading tracks you have bought, or Spotify if you just want to pick from their collection. You can use them both for free.
The original artist way - if you've done your own track which might help us chill, pop it into our Soundcloud dropbox. We'll listen and consider it for airplay and future "Instant Chill" online mixes, so you can help all our listeners chill!
You'll get an entry into the draw for every track you share, and we'll pick winners at random (max 1 CD set per entrant) on Tuesday 16 August. (We'll get in touch to ask for your address if you win. If you don't reply within a week, we'll need to pick another winner. Sorry for all the small print... competitions are so complicated since "Socksgate"...)
Thanks for being a friend and helping us chill!
Bern
If you're just back from The Big Chill and catching up on the nice reviews and the mad ones (anything about Saturday night really...) we'd love to hear how YOU found it all.
There have also been lots of new chilled events this year, like Chill listener Johnty Wilks' house parties, and long time friend Pete Lawrence's all new Chig Bill... Some friends who run our amazing local pub spent four days in character at this year's Secret Garden Party and can't wait to go again.
What's helping you chill this summer? Please let us know!

We made a little "Instant Chill" mix sampling this year's lineup which is either your warm up if you are about to go, or hopefully your souvenir of a great time if you found it after you got back!
It features James Blake, Aloe Blacc, Dionne Bromfield, Empire Of The Sun, Submotion Orchestra, Kraak & Smaak, Kanye West and Rodrigo Y Gabriela.
Hope you enjoy it!

Every three months we get a measure of how many people listen to Chill thanks to the official audience survey most stations take part in.
I always find the figures pretty mind boggling because I find it hard to visualise several massive festivals full of people who join us in an average week, but this is where we are...
Last quarter there was an average weekly audience of 190,000 (up from 172,000 last quarter, and 160,000 same time last year). People are also listening longer - we're getting nearly 40% more listening than last quarter. This is just for the live stream, by the way - not including any podcast downloads or "Instant Chill" plays.
It's amazing - thank you very much!
You have also been helping other listeners chill directly - take a look at the creative stuff people have been sharing on our Facebook page, which is now our main focus for discussions and chats. It is all very much appreciated in a stressful age!
Look out for some special "thank you" prizes in the next couple of days. Get thinking about your favourite chillout tunes and be ready to share them for a chance to win.
Best wishes,
Bern
PS - if you're just about to head to The Big Chill, don't worry, we'll save you some for when you get back!

Chill has been playing music to help you chill since 2004! This was so long ago that MySpace seemed cutting edge, and we were in fact the first UK radio station to have a MySpace page. We still have that MySpace page.
[sound fx: wind blowing, tumbleweed gently brushing the ground]
We probably should have done this ages ago, but yes, it is finally time to move the official blog away from that MySpace page, which we haven't updated for quite a while, just like you haven't updated yours.
Got some cool stuff to share tomorrow about a fun competition with prizes. Woo hoo!
Hint: have a think about your favourite chillout music, because we'll be asking you to share... and we've got some really nice compilations to give away!
Until then, have fun exploring our "Instant Chill" mixes at the new www.helpyouchill.com
Thanks!
Bern
